The makers of the action drama Alangu, starring Gunanidhi, Chemban Vinod, and Kaali Venkat in the main roles, have announced its release date. Produced by DG Film Company, in association with Magnas Productions, the film will hit theatres on December 27 in Tamil and Malayalam. The film, written and directed by SP Sakhthivel, is inspired by real events that took place near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The plot explores conflicts between a Malayali political group and a Tamil tribal youth organisation. The film also stars Appani Sarath (Angamaly Diaries) and Sreerekha in key roles. The makers released a poster featuring its cast on one side pitted against dogs on the other, with a caption that reads, "It's all about man vs dog."

The title is inspired by the dog breed Alangu, which has connections to Chola emperor Rajaraja the Great's war dogs. A dog also plays an important part in the film.

Sakthivel is known as the writer-director of films such as Urumeen (2015) and Payanigal Gavanikkavum (2022), as well as the creative producer of the Manikandan-starrer Good Night (2023).

Producers of Alangu comprise D Sabareesh and SA Sangamithra, who earlier collaborated on the GV Prakash-Gautham Menon film Selfie.

Alangu is shot in forest locations of Attapadi, Idukki, Anaikatti, Kambam, and Theni. It has cinematography by S Pandikumar, music by Ajesh, and editing by San Lokesh.
