The first look and title of Santhanam's next has been announced as 80s Buildup, the makers took to social media to announce on Wednesday. The poster, just like the title suggests, features a retro style dressed characters, as the film's ensemble is revealed.

Apart from Santhanam, 80s Buildup will also feature Radhika Preethi, Mansoor Ali Khan, Rajendran, Redin Kingsley, KS Ravikumar, Thangadurai, among others.

The film is written and directed by filmmaker S Kalyaan, who has previously helmed Jackpot, Ghosty, and Gulaebaghavali. 80s Buildup is backed by KE Gnanavel’s Studio Green banner.

Speaking to Cinema Express, the director said about the film, “It is a comedy film with a fantasy element. The film is set in a bereaving household and will happen in a span of one day. We have roped in many comedy actors to make it an out-and-out comedy entertainer. Besides the ones you see on the poster, the film also features late actors Mayilsamy and Manobala.”

Elaborating on Santhanam’s character, who is playing the lead, the director said he will be playing Kamal Haasan’s fan. “I started to work on this script last year and wrote the script keeping him in mind. He has given a great performance. I was born and brought up in 80s and I like that period. So I have taken the aesthetics and lifestyle of that period.”

The shooting of the film has been wrapped up. The makers are looking to release in theatres sometime in November. The post-productions are underway.

The technical crew of 80s Buildup consists of music by Ghibran, and cinematography by Jacob Rathinaraj. MS Bharathi is the editor.  While many recent films have been using retro music for cultural references, the director clarified that his film will not use old films.

The film’s post-theatrical rights are bagged by Prime Video.
