On Friday, the makers of August 16 1947 announced that the film has made its OTT premiere on Prime Video on May 5. The film hit theatres on April 7 and opened to unfavourable reviews.

Written and Directed by NS Ponkumar, August 16 1947 borrows its title from the date that marks one day after India gained independence from the British colonial rulers. The film tells the tale of a remote village where one man battles British forces. Debutant Revathy Sharma has played the lead role alongside Gautham Karthik.
