Sundar C's ambitious magnum opus Sangamithra has been revived with Vishal replacing Jayam Ravi in the film, according to reports. The film, which was shelved, initially had Arya, Shruti Haasan and Jayam Ravi playing lead roles. The music of Sangamithra was to be composed by AR Rahman. The film's first look poster was released at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.

The film was delayed due to a number of reasons. First, Shruti Haasan walked out of Sangamithra due to personal differences. Then, it was reported that Disha Patani was to star in place of Shruti. Eventually, the film was shelved altogether due to financial problems.

Recent reports suggest that the film has been revived and will begin production soon. Speculations are that Jayam Ravi is to be replaced by Vishal, as the former opted out of doing the film. Jayam Ravi apparently opted out because of his tight schedule and also because he didn't want to do another historical film after Ponniyin Selvan. However, we still await official confirmation from the makers of the film.
