Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan bags 6 Asian Film Awards nominations

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022. The makers recently announced that the second part of the film is slated for release on April 28. On Saturday, Mani Ratnam’s production, Madras Talkies, shared the news that the film has been nominated in six categories at the Asian Film Awards. The awards are to be held in Hong Kong on March 12.

The film has been nominated for Best Film, Best Original Music, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Costume Design. Apart from Ponniyin Selvan 1, RRR is the only other Indian film to receive nominations at the Asian Film Awards this year. 

Ponniyin Selvan 1 is based on Kalki’s novel of the same name. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film starred an ensemble cast comprising Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobitha Dhulipala, Sarathkumar, Rahman, and many others. While AR Rahman composed the music, Ravi Varman handled the cinematography and Sreekhar Prasad handled the editing. Thotta Tharani did the production design for this film produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
