Amidst a lot of hullabaloo, the makers of Ajith-starrer Thunivu have announced the release date as January 11. All eyes are now on when Vijay's Varisu will be releasing. It is after an eight-year-long gap that Vijay and Ajith are facing off at the box office, and there's a lot of hype surrounding it.

While a section of the audience are expecting a direct clash, trade circles are hoping that the makers of Varisu avert it and opt to release the film on the next day (Jan 12).

Thunivu, directed by H Vinoth, is a bank-heist thriller. From its recently released, the film looks action-heavy with Ajith in a grey-shaded role. Manju Warrier, Veera, Samuthirakani, Ajay, John Kokken, Amir, Pavni, Cibi Chandran, GM Sundar, Prem, and Bhagavathy Perumal also star in it.

Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly backing Thunivu. The makers recently got it certified with an U/A certificate, and locked the final runtime as 145.48 minutes.
