The makers of the Gautam Karthik starrer, August 16 1947, released the first single from the film titled Kottikara Payalae. Director of the film NS Ponkumar has penned the song's lyrics for Sean Roldan's composition. Meenakshi Elayaraja, along with the composer himself, has lent their voices to the folk song. 

The film is set against colonial times in India and the struggle for independence. The film tells the tale of a remote village where one man battles British forces.

August 16 1947, is backed by AR Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary. The film's technical crew includes music by Sean Roldan, Selvakumar SK cranking the camera, and Sudharsan on the edit. 

Apart from Gautham Karthik, August 16 1947, stars Pugazh, Revathy Sharma, Richard Ashton, Jason shah, and others.
