The makers of Mathimaran, starring Venkat Senguttuvan and Ivana in lead roles, have announced that the film has cleared censorship formalities with a U certificate and is all set to release on December 29.

The film is written and directed by Mantra Veerapandian. In an earlier conversation with CE, director Mantra said that the film mildly mirrors his life, "Although not on the level shown in the film, I have faced discrimination all my life. I am an average-looking guy from a southern village, and all my life, I've seen people express disbelief whenever I moved up the societal ladder. I faced this when I came to Chennai and even while I worked in Oman. People are quick to judge a book by its cover.

Apart from Venkat Senguttuvan and Ivana, the cast of Mathimaran also includes MS Bhaskar, Aadukalam Narein, Aradya, and Bava Chelladurai. While  Karthik Raaja has composed music for Mathimaran, Parvaez K has cranked the camera and Sathish Suriya has handled the editing.

Described as a 'multi-genre film', Mathimaaran was shot across locations in Tirunelveli, Sivagangai, Kalayarkovil, and Chennai.

The film is backed by Lenin Babu under the GS Cinema International banner.
