For Diwali this year, Tamil film buffs were busy visiting the theatres to watch the critically acclaimed Jigarthanda Double X helmed by Karthik Subbaraj. On the other hand, actor Karthi's fans booked tickets for his 25th film, Japan. With these films taking the upper hand, Kaali Venkat and the late Poo Ramu's Kida, helmed by Ra Venkat, went unnoticed.

The film which also hit theatres for Diwali this year, made its rounds across film festival circuits before having a theatrical release. And across those circuits, Kida received great acclaim. On Sunday, filmmaker Halitha Shameem praised the film, and called it 'The film of the year.'

Replying to the same, director Ra Venkat wrote in Tamil, "I am speechless due to the peace I feel in my heart as a filmmaker like you have honoured our small film." Further, Halitha wrote back to him saying, "I experienced horripilation on watching the film. This is beyond feel good, it's a feel-great film. Please make more films." (sic)

Kida recently premiered on the OTT platform Aha. The technical crew of the film consists of cinematographer M Jayaprakash, music composer Theeson and editor Anand Geraldin. While Poo Ramu played a doting grandfather who wished to sell his cow to buy new clothes for his grandson, Kaali Venkat essayed the role of a meat seller.
