On Tuesday, the first part of the soundtrack from Mani Ratnam's epic film, Ponniyin Selvan 2, was released. The film hit the theatre on April 28 and opened to positive reviews. The first part of Ponniyin Selvan was released in September 2022. The historic fictional film is set during the reign of the Chola empire. The film stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi in the lead roles, along with a cast comprising Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others.

Ponniyin Selvan is backed by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, with music scored by AR Rahman. The historical drama is adapted by Mani Ratnam, along with Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan. The film grossed over ₹342 crores of its release and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023 and the 4th highest-grossing Tamil film worldwide.
