Film producer SS Chakravarthy dies

Chakravarthy backed films like Vaali, Citizen, Kaalai among others

Film producer SS Chakravarthy, who predominantly worked in the Tamil industry, died on Saturday, after suffering from long-term illness. The last rites of the producer is scheduled to take place in Chennai.

Chakravarthy produced films under the banner NIC Arts and most of them featured actors Ajith Kumar or Silambarasan in the lead roles. He has backed Ajith-starrers like Vaali, Mugavaree, Citizen, which went on to become some of the landmark films in the actor's career, besides being a box office success. Chakravarthy also produced films like Ji, Kadhal Sadugudu, Vaalu, Kaalai among others, besides making acting debut in Vilangu web series, starring Vemal.

The producer’s son, Johnny also known as Imran Chakravarthy, made his acting debut in Renigunta which he produced, along with Johnny's next film, 18 Vayasu. The film also featured his daughter Shakeel Nila Chakravarthy.
