In a recent press interaction, actor Sarathkumar confirmed that he is working on a sequel to his 1997 box-off hit Suryavamsam. The actor further revealed that an official confirmation along with updates on the project will be unveiled on 5 October.

The family drama written and directed by Vikraman had Sarathukumar playing a dual role while Devayani played the female lead. Upon release the film clashed with big films like Rajinikanth’s Arunachalam and Vijay’s Love Today, and emerged as the biggest box office winner of the year. Suryavamsam  was subsequently remade into other languages like Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Sarathkumar is currently promoting his upcoming period drama Ponniyin Selvan where he plays Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, the Cholan loyalist who gets manipulated by Nandhini into turning against the Cholan royals. The actor also confirmed that he is in talks with director Gautham Vasudev Menon to collaborate on a project in the future, the pair last worked together in the 2007 film Pachaikili Muthucharam
