The makers of Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1), the upcoming Mani Ratnam’s period drama, have released the behind-the-scenes visuals from the song Ratchasa Maamaney.

The first part of the film is set to release in theatres on September 30, with a star ensemble including, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Jayaram, Sarath Kumar, among others.

The BTS segment reveals the shooting scenes where Karthi is dancing on an elaborate set. The song is choreographed by Brinda Master and the video also shows art director Thota Tharani talking about the song.

Karthi said, "This song happens when a princess attends a dance performance on Krishna Jayanthi. They have visualised how it would have been in the 10th century. They are doing a stage performance in that era. Yet it should feel real, so they have made women and children pull a rope to make them fly. It is a kind of showmanship.”

Brinda said, "We had Bharathanatyam and Kathak in the song. I choreographed it with my assistants and we'd do a full rehearsal. Even the kids performed cutely. We had a lot of Bharathanatyam girls. Not only our movie dancers, we had some classical girls as well."

Ponniyin Selvan is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
