68th National Film Awards: Suriya, Aparna, GV Prakash, Sudha Kongara win for Soorarai Pottru

At the recently announced 68th National Awards, Soorarai Pottru became the most celebrated film of this edition with wins for Best Film, Suriya (Best Actor), Aparna Balamurali (Best Actress), GV Prakash Kumar (Best Background Score), Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair (Best Screenplay). 

Right from the announcement of the event on Wednesday, these names were the frontrunners, and the win came as a celebration for the team and the fans. Praises were showered on social media by fans and celebs alike. This was the first time Suriya, Aparna, GV Prakash, and Sudha won a National Award. 

It was a huge win for Tamil cinema in the National Awards 2020 with Madonne Ashwin winning Best debut director for Mandela, and also taking home the Best Dialogues award for the same film. 

Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum won three awards — Best Tamil film, Best Supporting Actress for Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli, and Best Editing for Sreekar Prasad.

This was the ninth award for Sreekar Prasad, and the third for Vasanth, who previously won in the Short film and Best Film on social issues categories.
