Malayalam actor Jayasurya won the award for Best Actor in the Asian Competition for his performance in the film, Sunny. The nine-day-long festival saw over 225 films across 70 countries compete.

Koozhangal had earlier bagged the prestigious Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam. It was also selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards but failed to get nominated.

Koozhangal is a gripping drama that follows an alcoholic father and his son as they make their way to the mother’s house. Karuththadaiyaan and child actor Chellapandi star in the lead roles.

The film is backed by Nayanthara and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, through their banner Rowdy Pictures.
