There have been reports that Santhanam will star in a Tamil remake of Telugu blockbuster Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya. Now, the makers have officially announced the film.

Titled Agent Kannayiram, the remake is set to be directed by Manoj Beedha (of Vanjagar Ulagam-fame).

The announcement was made by Master-director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who shared the first look poster of the film on Twitter. "Here is the First Look of #AgentKannayiram. Happy to see @iamsanthanam sir in @manojbeedha_dir’s direction, I really enjoyed #vanjagarulagam and now I'm curious to watch this combo soon. Best wishes to @thisisysr @Labrynth_Films and the whole team.(sic)", he wrote.

Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is an 2019 investigative comedy thriller that starred Naveen Polishetty and Shruti Sharma in the leads. Santhanam will play Naveen's titular character, a rookie detective.

Agent Kannayiram also stars Riya Suman, Sruthi Hariharan, Pugazh (Cooku With Comali), Muniskanth, E Ramadoss, AruviMadhan, Aadhira, Indhumath, and others. Actor Guru Somasundaram will appear in a cameo role. With music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film will be produced by Labrynth Films, who had also produced director Manoj's Vanjagar Ulagam.
