Filmmaker Selvaraghavan has shocked his fans and film lovers by announcing that the team of his 2010 directorial Aayirathil Oruvan misquoted the budget to project it as a 'mega-budget' film.

The director took to Twitter to break the truth to everyone. He wrote, "The actual budget of Aayirathil Oruvan was 18 crores. But we decided to announce it as a 32 crore film to hype it as a mega-budget film. What stupidity!" He also shared that this mistake misguided everyone to assume that the film performed poorly at the box office, while it had broken even then. Selvaraghavan ended the tweet saying that he has learnt his lesson.

The adventure thriller Aayirathil Oruvan starred Karthi, Andrea Jeremiah, Reema Sen and Parthiban in the lead and had music by GV Prakash. The film was produced by R Ravindran's Dream Valley Corporation.

A sequel to Aayirathil Oruvan starring Dhanush in the lead was announced by Selva Raghavan on January 1 this year, scheduled to release in 2024.
