Actor Suriya is known for the intensity and charisma he brings to his roles, and this applies to even his shorter appearances in films. Who can forget his electrifying entry in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram? The actor comes towards the end of the Kamal Haasan starrer as a character named Rolex and lends a whole new level of mythology to the film. However, Vikram is only one of the many films featuring Suriya in special appearances. Here are some of the other occasions where Suriya plays the supporting parts and makes the special turns like only he can.
Avan Ivan
Suriya appears as himself in the Bala directorial, representing his non-government organisation (NGO) and promoting awareness about education. He delivers a speech explaining his philanthropic endeavours. With the actor set to exit the event, GM Kumar's character asks him to wait and watch Walter Vanangamudi (Vishal) render the Navarasas (nine emotions). It moves Suriya to tears. Suriya's portrayal mirrors his actual philanthropic efforts with the Agaram Foundation.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect
In writer, director and actor R Madhavan's biopic on ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, Suriya makes a guest appearance as himself in the Tamil version of the film (Shah Rukh Khan appears in the Hindi version). Suriya interviews Madhavan's titular character, who is acquitted of espionage charges, and talks to him about the respect shown towards scientists from India and abroad. It gives a proper conclusion to the tale of the legendary scientist.
Rakta Charitra 2
Suriya plays a supporting role as a gangster named Yeturi Suryanarayana Reddy in Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra 2, also starring Vivek Oberoi. The film, which marked the actor's Hindi debut, earned him critical appreciation for the searing intensity that he brought to the role. His character, though not the protagonist, is central to the film's climax and resolution, underscoring the importance of his casting. Many critics even mentioned that the film would be a total disaster if not for Suriya's performance.
Friends
In Siddique's remake of his own Malayalam film Friends, Suriya plays the role that Mukesh portrays in the original. The film, which reunited Suriya and Vijay after 1997's Nerrukku Ner, makes use of the actor's comedic charm and ability to hold the camera in dramatic portions. The tale of friction between friends hits home in the climax, with Vijay and Suriya delivering a mini acting masterclass.
Manmadhan Ambu
In director KS Ravikumar's film, starring Kamal Haasan, Suriya appears as himself in a song, titled 'Oyyale', which also features Trisha as Ambujakshi. This appearance is primarily a plot device to evoke humour, as it makes R Madhavan's character Madhan think that Ambujakshi is in love with Suriya. This is Suriya's first appearance in a Kamal Haasan film, although the two do not have any combination scenes.
