D Imman won the Best Music Director for his work in Ajith's 2019 commercial entertainer, Viswasam. With the win, D Imman has become the fourth composer to win the National Award for a Tamil film. 

In a conversation with Cinema Express, Imman opens up about the latest milestone in his career, inspirations, and his upcoming film with Rajinikanth.

When asked if he expected that Viswasam would win a National Award, Imman reveals that he was taken by surprise like everyone. "I was doubtful whether a commercial film will be considered for a National Award. Though such entertainers rake in numbers and bring people to theatres, they are usually ignored when it comes to awards. So this win is special, and I believe it is all because of God's grace." 

Imman also spoke about how Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman inspired him and his work over time.
