Asuran has bagged the Best Tamil Film Award at the 67th National Awards, which was announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today. In addition to that, the film's lead actor Dhanush has won the Best Actor award (Shared) for his performance in the movie.

This is the second National Award won by the film's producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, who produced Asuran under his production banner V Creations. He had earlier won the award for the film Vanna Vanna Pookal, which was released in 1992.

Speaking to Cinema Express, Kalaipuli S Thanu expressed his happiness on winning two awards for the film. He said, "I am doubly happy. In 1992, Balu Mahendra got me the same award for the film Vanna Vanna Pookal. Now, his assistant (Vetri Maaran) has got it for me again. I dedicate this award to him and Dhanush. I wasn't sure if the film would win a National Award when we began the project, but after seeing the preview show, I was confident that Asuran was capable of winning all the awards out there."

Asuran, based on the Tamil novel Vekkai by Poomani, was also among the ten films, which were screened at 76th Golden Globes. Other than Dhanush, the film also features Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Prakash Raj, and Pasupathi in lead roles. It has music by GV Prakash.
