Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth met the press and media personnel yesterday to update his stand on his political career— something which he had been taunting for years before taking the 'political plunge' on 31 December 2017.

The veteran actor spoke about his plans of launching a political party ahead of the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. In what can be called his first political press conference, after the announcement on New Year's Eve 2017, Rajinikanth stated that he has no interest in becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He went on to say that he prefers to remain the head of his prospective party and only wants a change in the political scene of the state.

"I had the chance back in 1996 when I was 45. If I take it in 2021 when I would be 71, I would be called a fool. I know many of my supporters will not be happy with this decision of mine. However, all I want is a change in politics and if it doesn't happen now, it won't happen ever," said Rajinikanth who shared that he wants an educated and talented youngster to sit in the chief minister's chair.

The actor-politician went on to say that he believes that there's a vacuum in the political scene of the state. "We are going head-on against two giants — one side is a party that has not been in power for a while now and the successors are striving to prove their legacy, while on the other side, there's someone with Kuberan's treasure."

Rajinikanth, who did not announce the name of his party, also urged youngsters, along with IAS, IPS officers, and other intellectuals to team up with him for establishing a new form of politics.

Incidentally, apart from the two Dravidian political parties, Rajinikanth did not refer to any other parties, neither in the state nor in the centre. The actor also did not mention a word about his peer Kamal Haasan with whom Rajini was supposedly in talks to work together politically.
