McQuarrie, who directed Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, replied to a tweet from a fan who asked if the casting rumours were true. McQuarrie wrote, "While he‘s a very talented man, we’ve never met. Welcome to the internet."

Mission: Impossible 7 is currently in production. The film stars Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett and Frederick Schmidt, and is scheduled to hit theatres in May 2022.

Meanwhile, Prabhas, who recently finished shooting for Radhe Shyam, also has Om Raut's Adipurush and Prashanth Neel's Salaar in different stages of production. He will also be seen alongside Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in Nag Ashwin's untitled movie
