Intrigued by the Tamil culture, Malayalam filmmaker Vinod Guruvayoor is all set to direct a film based on the sport of jallikattu. The film stars Appani Sarath, who has appeared in Angamaly Diaries and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, in the lead role.

“I have great admiration for Tamil Nadu, its people, culture, and the language. So, I had always wanted to make a movie in Tamil and the dream has come true with this project,” says Vinod, who has directed Malayalam movies such as Shikhamani and Sakalakalashala.

Talking about the progress of the film, Vinod says, “We have done intense research on the subject and the script work is complete. The film will be shot in and around Palani.”

Sarath, who plays a rural youngster in the film, says, “As my character participates in jallikattu, I had to undergo training and I hope I have done the homework right. I am happy to work with Vinod Guruvayoor. The common thing between both of us is our love for Tamil. This project is so close to our hearts.”

The cast and crew of the yet-to-be-titled film are currently being finalised. The principal photography will commence on May 15.
