Knives Out 2, the sequel to the hit 2019 murder mystery has officially begun its production in Greece.

Director Rian Johnson, who is returning to helm the sequel, announced the news on Twitter. “Aaaaaaaand WE’RE OFF!,” Johnson wrote. “Day one of filming on the next Benoit Blanc mystery. Thanks to all the lovely patient people here in Greece for letting us do all this murdering on their peaceful shores,” he wrote.

According to reports, the film will be shot in Spetses, an island off the northeastern Peloponnese coast, and nearby Porto Heli, in the area known as the Greek Riviera. The shooting in Greece is expected to conclude at the end of July or August.

Knives Out 2 brings back Daniel Craig as the fan-favourite detective Benoit Blanc. The sequel also stars Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline and Jessica Henwick.

Knives Out, produced by Media Rights Capital and distributed by Lionsgate, earned more than $300 million worldwide. The film featured a massive ensemble cast including Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, and Christopher Plummer.

Early this year, Netflix acquired the rights for two sequels of Knives Out with a clause that both the sequels should be anchored by Craig and must have at least the budget of the original.
