Actor Luke Evans joins the already stellar cast of Robert Zemeckis' upcoming Disney live-action remake of Pinocchio.

Known for his work in the Fast and Furious series and Beauty and the Beast, Evans will star alongside Tom Hanks, who is playing the role of Geppetto.

This project reunites Hanks with his long-time collaborator Zemeckis. They have worked together on films like Forrest Gump, Cast Away and Polar Express.

Chris Weitz, who has written the script with Zemeckis, will also produce the film with Andrew Miano through their company Depth of Field.

Disney's original 1940 film was based on Carlo Collodi's 1883 Italian children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. The animated feature centres on a wood-carver named Geppetto who carves a wooden puppet brought to life by a fairy. The titular puppet is told that he will become a real boy if he proves himself to be "brave, truthful, and unselfish."

Evans recently completed filming for the Hulu mini-series Nine Perfect Strangers, and will also star in a prequel series to Beauty and the Beast, along with Josh Gad. The show will debut on Disney+.
