We had earlier reported that K Bhagyaraj's yesteryear film, Mundhanai Mudichu, is getting a remake, and Sasikumar and Aishwarya Rajesh would be playing the leads in it. Now, it has been announced that SR Prabhakaran will be helming the film.

The director will be joining hands with Sasikumar for the third time for Mundhanai Mudichu. They had previously worked together in Sundarapandian and the yet-to-be-released Kombu Vatcha Singam Da. The latter is touted to be a spiritual sequel of the former film.

Mundhanai Mudichu will be produced by JSB Sathish under his JSB Film Studios banner. The rest of the cast and crew details are expected to be announced soon.

Interestingly, a sequel to Mundhanai Mudichu, titled Mappillai Vinayagar, was shot in 2012 with Lollu Sabha Jeeva in the lead, playing the role of the son of the characters played by Bhagyaraj and Urvashi in the original. But, the film failed to get a theatrical release.
