Actor Suriya Sivakumar expressed his grief over the demise of director and cinematographer KV Anand.

In a heartfelt statement addressed to the late director, Suriya paid his tribute and said that his demise reminds us of the disastrous times we are living in and that the tragic news brought back waves of unforgettable memories they shared. "Your photographs initiated the miraculous transformation of Sarvanan into Suriya. I am fascinated when I look back at those two hours when you strived to capture a new face in the right angle. Those two hours of photoshoot at Madras Talkies felt like a battleground," said the actor.

Suriya added that it was a picture that Anand shot in a Russian angle during the shoot of Nerukku Ner that won him the confidence of director Vasanth and producer Mani Ratnam. "My future shined bright only because of the light that reflected from your lens. I can never forget your contribution and guidance to my journey in cinema. Your words continue to guide me." 

Suriya also reflected back at the success of his 2009 film Ayan, which was directed by Anand. "I was desperate for success and Ayan gave me a new boost to run forward. The film elevated me to the pedestal of a star who is loved by all and I am eternally grateful to you for it."

The actor highlighted the strange coincidence that Anand shot his first film and he played the hero in his last film. "You will always live in our memories, sir. This is my heartfelt tribute to thank you."

As a director, Anand worked in three films with Suriya, Ayan, Maattraan and Kaappaan.

The filmmaker passed away early this morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 54 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
