Acharya postponed due to Covid-19 spike

CE Features

We had earlier reported that Chiranjeevi-starrer Acharya would not meet its release date on May 13 due to a surge in Covid-19 cases across the Telugu States. Konidela Productions, the production house of Acharya, took to Twitter today to announce that the socio-political entertainer has been postponed indefinitely and will not hit screens as scheduled owing to the prevailing situation.

"Keeping in view the pandemic situation, Acharya will not be releasing on May 13. A new release date will be announced once the situation becomes normal. Wear a mask, stay home and stay safe!" tweeted the production house.

Ever since theatres in Telangana voluntarily suspended operations, producers and distributors have been waiting for word on the reopening of cinema halls. We hear the situation will remain the same till June. Sources say the makers of Acharya are considering either mid-July or early August to release the film.

"The stakes are high for Acharya and it is important for the makers to release the film at an appropriate time. The spike in Covid-19 cases, the closure of theatres, and also the delay in the production have all contributed to the postponement of the release," reveals a source close to the development.

Directed by Koratala Siva, Acharya tells the story of a carpenter-turned-naxalite who is on a mission to protect natural resources. Also starring Kajal Aggarwal, Ram Charan, Pooja Hegde, and Sonu Sood, the film has music by Mani Sharma.

Acharya is the fourth film that brings together the father-son duo of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan on the big screen.
