Jessica Chastain is set to play the role of country music singer Tammy Wynette in the limited series George & Tammy. Some of Chastain's popular films include The Help, It Chapter Two, Molly's Game and Interstellar.

Abe Sylvia has penned the script for Spectrum Originals. “I am humbled to bring this incredible story to life with the breadth it deserves and that the Charter platforms allow. Tammy Wynette is an American icon, and I can think of no one better to illuminate the woman behind the legend than Jessica Chastain," Sylvia said in a statement.

The series revolves around the relationship between Wynette and George Jones, based on the novel The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, which was written by their daughter  Georgette Jones. The couple was married for six years between 1969 and 1975 and their relationship was used as an inspiration for some of her iconic songs. Wynette is popularly referred to as the 'first lady of country music'.

Andrew Lazar, Josh Brolin, and Chastain will serve as executive producers of the project.
