The Meg 2 to be directed by Ben Wheatley

Headlined by Jason Statham, The Meg was a shark thriller adapted from a novel by Steve Alten

Filmmaker Ben Wheatley will direct the sequel of the 2018 shark thriller, The Meg. The director's Rebecca, starring Armie Hammer, Lily James, and Kristin Scott Thomas, was released recently on Netflix. He is also famous for helming films like Sightseers, Kill ListHigh Rise, and Free Fire.

The announcement of The Meg 2 comes two years after the first film became a hit. The original was lead by Jason Statham and he is expected to reprise his role in the sequel. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, The Meg had Statham playing a shark expert fighting a giant megalodon that surfaces from the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans located in the Pacific.

The film was adapted from a novel by Steve Alten and it also featured Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, and Ruby Rose in pivotal roles.

An official announcement about the rest of the cast and crew of The Meg 2 is expected from the makers soon.
