Daniel Levy, the creator and actor of famous Canadian comedy series Schitt’s Creek condemned the censorship of the show on Comedy Central India. The channel shared the promo video of an episode from Season 5 of the show. The short clip was posted by Comedy Central India on March 2019 in their official Twitter handle. 

When the channel allowed clips of two women kissing and the kiss between a heterosexual couple, the promo removed the clip of two men sharing an intimate kiss. Dan Levy took to Twitter and pointed out the homophobic censorship. Levy explained that it conflicted with the core idea of his show, which seeks to celebrate love and embrace inclusivity.

This comes at a time when censorship is growing more widespread and stifling in the Indian media. Levy included the hashtag #loveislove in his tweet and clarified that the censorship was done only in the Indian channel. Levy explained that Comedy Central America did not censor the show and were sensitive towards the show.

Schitt’s Creek recently created history at the Emmys by dominating the Comedy category. All the seasons of the CBC show are currently streaming on Netflix.
