CBS Studios and Spectrum Original’s The Second Wave has announced new casting updates with Will Swenson, Phillipa Soo, and Leslie Uggams joining the cast. While Swenson will be a series regular, Soo and Uggams will appear as recurring guest stars.

The Second Wave follows an unexpected second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in New York City, centering on the lives of two neighbors, Rachel (Audra McDonald) and Lily (Taylor Schilling) as they navigate quarantine, relationships, and careers.

Swenson is best known for his work in musical theatre productions like Les Miserables and Hair. In The Second Wave, he will portray the role of a thrill-seeking top photojournalist. Soo, who is best known for playing the role of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton in Hamilton, will portray a White House liaison to the CDC.

Tony Award-winning actor and singer Uggams, who is best known for her portrayal of Kizzy in Roots, will play a Nobel-prize winning immunologist and the lead character, Rachel’s mother.
