In an official statement, director Gautham Menon has confirmed that the sequel to his 2010 romantic drama, Vinnai Thaandi Varuvayaa (VTV), is very much in the works.

"The journey will begin soon," said the filmmaker, whose 12-minute short film, Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn – a follow-up to VTV – was released recently on Youtube, and has garnered close to 5 million views so far.

"Honestly, I am surprised. I believe a filmmaker faces the hardest of hurdles when attempting a sequel to a hit film. Although the idea of a second part has been on the cards for some time now, I went through a tough time in giving a form to that concept. Of course, the process still continues, but the sequel will happen for sure," Gautham said, in the statement.

Meanwhile, the director has two films awaiting release — Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha, starring Varun, and Vikram-starrer Dhruva Natchathiram.
