Jyotika's Ponmagal Vandhal, one of the first Tamil films to announce their plans to release directly on OTT platforms, is set to being streaming on Amazon Prime from May 29.

Also starring Parthiban, Bhagyaraj, Prathap Pothen, Thiyagarajan and Pandiarajan, Ponmagal Vandhal is a legal drama, which is written and directed by JJ Fredrick. It is bankrolled by Suriya and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian.

The decision by the makers to release the film, which was originally scheduled for a March 27 release, to take the OTT route received a lot of outrage from the theatre owners. Condemning the decision, R Panneerselvam, the general secretary of the theatres association stressed that films made for theatrical release, as a policy, must never opt for digital releases, he even threatened to never allow a theatre release of any film involving Suriya, and his production house.
