DD National announced through a tweet from their official handle. “Thanks to all our viewers!! Ramayan: World Record!! Highest Viewed Entertainment Program Globally,” the tweet read, along with a clip from the show.

Notably, DD national had earlier stated that 7.7 crore people had watched the show on April 16. “Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most-watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April,” its tweet read.

Originally aired in 1987, the show found a rerun on DD National after Narendra Modi announced a lockdown to battle the coronavirus pandemic. After concluding the Ramayan rerun, the channel followed it with a re-telecast of Uttar Ramayan.
