Lasya Nagaraj will be getting into the shoes of Anna Ben in the Kannada remake of the Malayalam survival thriller Helen.

While the original was directed by Mathukutty Xavier, the yet-to-be-titled remake will mark the maiden directorial venture of ad filmmakers — Arunkumar M and Sabu Aloysius — in Kannada. The film will be made under the banner Silver Train International in association with Friday Films, which is backed by director Lohit H of Mummy fame.

“Friday Films production house intends to give a platform to new directors and focus on fresh content. Helen is a thriller revolving around a girl locked in a freezer room. Her fight to survive forms the plot. Even though we have acquired the remake rights of the film, it will be tweaked to suit sensibilities of the Kannada audience,” says Lohit.

He adds that Lasya was the perfect choice for the role. “We were looking for a fresh face and a good performer. Lasya is perfect because she is also a good Bharathanatyam dancer, and this is one of the requirements of her role.”

With the makers in the process of finalising the title, the team will kickstart the shoot towards the end of this month. They plan to shoot the entire film in Mysuru.
