Anushka Sharma’s Netflix horror film Bulbbul to release on June 24

The film stars Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwary in the lead roles

Anushka Sharma has shared the teaser of her upcoming Netflix production, Bulbbul. Releasing on June 24, Bulbbul is a supernatural horror film set in Bengal. The film marks the directorial debut of lyricist and dialogue writer Anvita Dutt.

Produced by Anushka’s Clean Slate Filmz, Bulbbul stars Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwary in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Paoli Dam, and others. 

The film is described as a period piece amidst ‘age-old beliefs and superstitions’. The titular character, Bulbbul, is a child bride who is abandoned by her husband. When her brother-in-law, Satya, returns from England, he finds her leading a solitary life as the enigmatic lady-of-the-palace, dedicating herself to the welfare of the people. “But their ancestral village is plagued by mysterious deaths and stories of a haunting by a woman who lives in the trees. Satya must find the truth behind the lore and save his village from the evil ‘chudail with the inverted feet',” the film’s synopsis states.
