Actor Diana Penty has initiated The Khaki Project to support Mumbai police officers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A week into the lockdown, Diana and her partner, Harsh, reached out to local police authorities to distribute basic essentials to police personnel in Byculla. After receiving feedback from officers, they started #TheKhakiProject to provide two absolutely essentials – hand sanitizer and protective eyewear - to the force.

In order to scale up the effort, Diana partnered with the Salaam Bombay Foundation to connect with senior officials of police stations across Mumbai.

The Khaki Project has already provided supplies for 10 police stations (approximately 2000 officers) across containment zones in South Mumbai. The project aims to reach about 94 police stations across Mumbai. Diana has started a fundraiser on Ketto.org to this end. 

Speaking about the initiative, Diana shared, “Our police forces have been out there every day, working round the clock to protect us during this pandemic. This is just a small attempt to thank them and show them that we care. We want to be able to provide for as many police personnel as we can and that is the main aim of the fundraiser on Ketto.org. It’s our turn to help them as they continue to protect us.”
