Anand Gandhi releases poster of his upcoming film, Emergence

Based on the present times, Emergence is also expected to touch upon life in a post-pandemic world

On the seventh anniversary of his film, Ship of Theseus, filmmaker Anand Gandhi unveiled the poster of his next project, Emergence. While it is based on the present times, Emergence is also expected to touch upon life in a post-pandemic world.

Talking about the project, Anand said it originated from an idea in his Ship of Theseus. In that film, the character Charvaka describes how a fungus takes over an ant's body, and says, "There, our entire idea of free will down the bin. One single small fungus spore does that to an ant. You have trillions of bacteria in your body. How do you know where you end, and where your environment begins?"

With this idea as the central question, Anand started writing Emergence in 2015. "After five years of intensive research and writing, the project is now ready for production. It's the ultimate distillation of all my life's epiphanies and insights," he added.

Gandhi, who co-wrote last year's Helicopter Eela, is also known for films like An Insignificant Man and Tumbbad.
