Margot Robbie, who was last seen in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, will co-star Oscar winner Christian Bale in filmmaker David O Russell's next.

Russell, who is penning the script for the untitled film, might also direct the project if things go as per plan.

The plot details of the film are being kept under wraps, but it is said to be based on an original idea from the director. The project will be bankrolled by Matthew Budman of American Hustle fame.

Bale previously collaborated with Russell in the 2010 film The Fighter, which earned the actor his first Oscar for best supporting actor, and 2013's American Hustle. He was last seen in James Mangold's Ford vs Ferrari.

Russell's last directorial was Joy (2015), featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
