Kangana Ranaut, who essays late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa in her upcoming biopic, Thalaivi, has expressed interest in portraying Kannagi, another famous Tamil character.

At an interaction, Kangana revealed that she wants to play the role of Kannagi, a legendary Tamil woman, who forms the central character of the epic Silappathikaram, and has been elevated to mythical status. She is described as a chaste woman who avenged her adulterous husband's wrongful death by burning down Madurai.

Kangana found out about Kannagi through director Vijay, who is directing her in Thalaivi. After hearing about the legend, she asked Vijay to prepare a script on Kannagi's life and even expressed her wish to portray the character, a source said.

However, Kangana will take a call on the film only after the release of Thalaivi on June 26.

Kangana Ranaut was last seen in Panga. Besides Thalaivi, she is also set to star in the action film Dhakkad.
