Filmmaker Karan Johar has unveiled the first teaser of his upcoming period film, Takht. Set during the Mughal era, it stars Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and others.

The teaser features an empty golden throne inside a dark palace. As the camera dollies out, a voice-over says, “For Mughal princes, the road to power went through the coffins of their loved ones.”

This is interrupted by: “If that road passed through love, then the history of India would have been something else.”

Takht follows the battle for power between Mughal princes Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh, the sons of Shah Jahan. While Vicky essays Aurangzeb, Ranveer plays Dara Shukoh. The screenplay is written by Sumit Roy.

Takht will go on floors in March this year. Locations include Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and parts of Europe. The film will be released on December 24, 2021.
