Wonder Woman 3 in development at Warner Bros

CE Features

Wonder Woman is officially returning for a third instalment. The Warner Bros announcement comes just days after the release of the second film in the series, Wonder Woman 1984. It also states that director Patty Jenkins will return to write and direct the third film.

The fan-favorite superhero Wonder Woman, portrayed by Gal Gadot, has been in the DC Entertainment Universe since her appearance in the Dawn of Justice: Batman Vs Superman, and the enormous reception that the first Wonder Woman film received propelled it into one of DC’s most successful franchises.

The second film, Wonder Woman 1984, stars Gal Gadot, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Chris Pine in the lead roles, and is written and directed by Patty Jenkins

According to Variety, the third movie will have a ‘traditional theatrical release’ rather than the simultaneous HBO Max release that the studio has been opting for. Wonder Woman 1984 was released in theatres and on OTT simultaneously. The film reportedly collected $16.7 million from 2,100 North American theatres – the best opening weekend in the COVID era. In HBO Max, more than six million subscribers are said to have watched the film, with millions more opting for cable/wireless access.

It is also noteworthy to mention that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will be seen next in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which will premiere on HBO Max in 2021.
