Malayalam filmmaker, editor, and screenwriter Naranipuzha Shanavas has passed away due to complications following cardiac arrest. He was 37.

The filmmaker, who was working on a new script, was admitted at Coimbatore's KG Hospital and put in intensive care after his health condition deteriorated.

Shanavas, who hails from Malappuram, made his directorial debut in 2015 with the critically acclaimed Karie. He followed it up with Sufiyum Sujatayum, starring Jayasurya and Aditi Rao Hydari. The latter was the first Malayalam film to be released directly on an OTT platform.
