Netflix has announced that it is developing an eight-episode Resident Evil series, inspired by Capcom's video game franchise. Supernatural writer Andrew Dabb has been roped in to pen the script of the live-action series. He will also serve as the showrunner and executive producer.

The upcoming series will follow a new story set in two different timelines. One will revolve around two teen sisters who unravel mysterious things after moving to New Raccoon City. The other will be set in a doomed future as the sisters are left to face those infected with the T-virus.

In a statement, Dabb said, "Resident Evil is my favourite game of all time. I''m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world."

Dabb is expected to begin work on this series after finishing the final season of Supernatural. Contantin Films is attached to produce.

The Resident Evil franchise has six movies so far.
