Bharathiraja calls for mass prayer on Thursday for SPB's recovery

Celebrities across the film fraternity including Ilayaraja, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and AR Rahman are set to take part in the prayers from their respective places at 6 pm on August 20

As legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam's health condition continues to remain critical after testing positive for Covid-19, director Bharathiraja has called for a mass prayer at 6 pm on August 20, inviting people across the world to play SPB songs at their respective places and pray for his recovery.

Celebrities across the film fraternity including Ilayaraja, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, AR Rahman will also take part in the prayers from their respective places. "SPB knows only to sow seeds of love. He is a wonderful artiste. He should be back amongst us soon. We will get him back. Let us all pray to mother nature to give SPB to us," Bharathiraja has said in a statement. He noted that a similar prayer was held for MGR when he was hospitalised.

"Let's join irrespective of caste, language or creed for SPB.  His voice should be heard again. Let's come together and pray," he added.

This evening, a statement released by MGM Healthcare said that SPB continues to be on ventilator and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support in the Intensive care unit (ICU). SPB's son Charan has also been regularly sharing updates about his father's health and thanking everyone for their support.
