Director Gautham Menon has revealed that he has been working on a sequel for his second Tamil film, the Suriya-Jyotika starrer, Kaakha Kaakha. On the occasion of the 17th year anniversary of the cop film, the director, in an exclusive interview with Cinema Express, said, "I have written the script to a large extent and Suriya said he wanted a gap between his cop films, considering the Singam franchise. I will take it to him sometime soon. Whether Maya is alive or not would be explored in the film."

Interestingly, though Jyotika's character Maya gets killed in the theatrical version of the film, she was shown to be injured yet alive Maya in an alternate climax that had since made its rounds online. In an earlier interaction with Cinema Express, Gautham Menon had said that he might be teaming up with Suriya for a film, after the release of his upcoming films, Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha and Dhruva Natchathiram. It's not clear at this point if this would be the Kaakha Kaakha sequel.

Meanwhile, Suriya is awaiting the release of Sudha Kongara's Soorarai Pottru and will then work on Vetri Maaran's Vaadi Vasal and Hari's Aruvaa.
