Jennifer Lopez visited strip clubs for Hustlers

Jennifer Lopez, who was last seen in Second Act, stars in her new film Hustlers as a sharp New York City stripper who plots against wealthy Wall Street customers to sustain the 2008 recession. The actor, reportedly, got to know several dancers and visited strip clubs, where she observed their routines for the character.

Lopez started training with pole artist, choreographer, and star trainer Johanna Sapakie months before filming began. She then met with the dancers backstage and listened to what it was like to have a career as a dancer.

Her character, Ramona, is inspired by the savvy Samantha Barbash, who was the ringleader in the dupe. Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, the movie also stars Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B.

About preparing for the role, Lopez said: “I soaked up the atmosphere and wanted to learn how to do things authentically, including pole dancing. I think it would surprise people – although it shouldn’t – that most of these women are just trying to get by. Their struggles are 100 percent relatable. They want to take care of themselves and their families, and we wanted to make sure we brought that all to life.”

Hustlers is scheduled for release in India this Friday.
