The title of the Varun Tej-starrer Valmiki has been changed to Gaddalakonda Ganesh, the character played by the Fidaa actor in the film, following a plea from the Boya Hakkula Porata Samithi to the High Court of Telangana and several other members from the community to the district collectors of  Kurnool and Anantapur.

"Following the concerns raised by the Boya community about the previous title (Valmiki), we have decided to changed it to Gaddalakonda Ganesh after extensive discussion with our distributors. We are ensuring a smooth release across the Telugu States on September 20 (tomorrow). We feel it won't hamper the prospects of the film and in the interest of time, we have decided to alter the title," say director Harish Shankar, and producers, Ram Achanta, and Gopi Achanta.

Ever since the Harish Shankar-directorial was launched, the leaders of the Boya community have been expressing their concerns over the film violating their community rights and cultural practices.

Gaddalakonda Ganesh, also starring Pooja Hegde, Atharvaa and Varun Tej will now be released as scheduled on September 20 (tomorrow).
