The first-look posters of Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior are out. The historical epic stars Ajay Devgn as Tanaji Malusare, a general in the Marathi army known for his exploits in the Battle of Sinhagad. In the posters, we see Tanaji waging a war against his nemesis Uday Bhan Rathod, a Mughal fortkeeper played by Saif Ali Khan.

Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior is directed by Om Raut. The film also stars Kajol in the role of Savitri Malusare. Ajay Devgn and Kajol had last appeared together in U Me Aur Hum (2008).

The Battle of Sinhagad was fought on the night of February 4, 1670. The Marathas had used innovative techniques to recapture Fort Kondhana, which had fallen under Mughal rule following a treaty between Chhatrapati Shivaji and Jai Singh 1.

After a steep climb to the fort, Tanaji had engaged in a battle with Uday Bhan and lost his life. The siege was completed by Tanaji’s brother Surya Ji, who successfully recaptured the fort and remade it Sinhagad.

Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior is produced by Ajay Devgn and Bhushan Kumar. The period epic is set for release on January 10.
